Program Details

The Isabella de Bethencourt Memorial POSA Cops4Kids Match Against Cancer program is a way for shooting enthusiasts and law enforcement officers to join together to raise contributions from the shooting community to this most worthy of causes: finding a cure for pediatric cancer.

Here's how the program works;

- Any gun club, shooting league, police department, any organization, or any group of shooters can hold a match, or any other event, charge whatever amount chosen for participation, and send a check for the proceeds to the program.  This program is a natural complement for IDPA, ISPC, Cowboy and police competition, and any other organized shooting sports. Proceeds can be generated from shooting fees, donations, raffles, or any other method.

- While POSA's original local matches were special, elaborate events with corporate sponsors, donations, raffles, silent auctions, and poker shoots, your's can be as simple as a donation of the shooting fees of a single, regular match. The event doesn't even have to be a match, it can be anything such as a cookout. And keep in mind, a
ll donations are tax-deductible!

- If you choose a match, you may run any kind of match and set the rules as you wish. Or, you may choose to run a special type of fun and educational action shooting match, designed by the Police Officers Safety Association, specifically for this program. See below for details on the POSA Street Action Match

- Annually, the Police Officers Safety Association will donate the funds raised to The Jimmy Fund/ Dana Farber Cancer Institute in the name of “The Isabella de Bethencourt Memorial POSA Cops4Kids Match Against Cancer.”

 - A special “Card of Thanks” will be sent to your group from Isabella’s parents, Heather and Michael de Bethencourt, acknowledging your thoughtfulness and generosity.

- Checks should be made out to "POSA Match Against Cancer", and mailed to: POSA Match Against Cancer, PO Box 685, Chepachet, RI 02814.

POSA Street Action Match

If you choose to host a POSA Street Action Shooting Match you will find that it is an exciting and educational alternative to IDPA, IPSC or other current organized competitions. The Street Action Match format offers a more realistic approach with significant training value. The key points are: 1) stages are shot "blind" meaning the participant does not see the stage ahead of time. 2) judgement is an integral and important element to the stages--not just running and gunning, and 3) The stages may present a training lesson or problem that must be discovered and addressed.

The benefits of running the POSA Street Action Shooting Match are:

1) It provides variety from your usual match rules, whatever they are.  Your usual shooters’ interest will be piqued by these novel rules and our unique approach.

2) These rules are designed to emphasize judgment in addition to shooting skills. Thus, these rules are tilted towards realism and the responsible split-second judgments that have to be made in real-life situations.

Why Donate Through this Program?

Why donate to pediatric cancer research through this program, rather than simply send a check to the Jimmy Fund yourself?

The main reason is that by donating to this worthy cause with a large combined donation, the extraordinary generosity of the shooting community is clearly demonstrated.

Additionally, a national program such as this will encourage more fund-raising events than would otherwise occur.  Public events are the best way to raise awareness and encourage participation and donations!

 Every dollar brings us closer to a cure for pediatric cancer!
